$100,000 Grant for Hope VI Community Activities Center
(Renaissance / Bluemeyer)
Upon completion, the community activities center will be on the grounds of Renaissance Place at Grand and will serve over 2,500 EZ residents. The center will include multi-purpose rooms, computer lab, community oriented programs and physical fitness classes. The center will be a resource to all residents, especially youngsters and senior citizens.
$250,000 Grant for Cochran Gardens HOPE VI Redevelopment Infrastructure
This is a $20.3 million dollar project on a 10.2 acre site. The EZ grant will be applied to the infrastructure costs of 114 public housing units, 99 affordable units, 53 market rate units and 20 subsidized homeownership units. Upon completion, all residents will have access to social service case management, job skills training and community enrichment programs on site.
$450,000 for Small Grants To Date
A one-time, competitive award program to fund short-term projects that work to create a sense of community within one or more of the EZ neighborhoods and for EZ residents.
$120,000 Grant Community Health in Partnership Services (CHIPS) Development Officer
This grant is to hire a development officer for two years to implement marketing strategies and raise funds to build a new $4 million dollar facility within the EZ area to accommodate increased clientele. CHIPS health center operating in north St. Louis for 13 years; offers primary health care, managed referrals, social services and health education free to the public.
$165,000 Grant for JVL Initiative Community Center
Upon completion, a renovated community center will house human services and real estate development management organizations. They will build capacity among EZ residents in the JeffVanderLou neighborhood.
$300,00 Grant for the Wellston Neighborhood Park
A new park in the City of Wellston will include a baseball field, a basketball court, a tot lot, a concession facility and a separate facility for restrooms. EZ funds will be used toward design, construction and landscaping.
$750,000 Grant for the North Market Redevelopment Plan
The project is a joint effort between the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group and the Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance. EZ funds will be used for infrastructure improvements to develop 41 homes in Phase I.
$347,802 Grant for Wellston Holding Cells
EZ funds will be used to construct 1,100 square foot addition onto the existing City Hall in Wellston that will be used as a short-term detention facility for prisoners. The availability of this resource allows the municipality to invest the in areas that enhance public safety, encourage business retention and promote neighborhood stability.
$354,805 Grant for Building Digital Equity in Families
Through a collaborative effort that involves Southern Illinois University-Champaign, Boeing Corporation, St. Louis Public Schools and approximately 22 community technology centers, Youth and Family Services will provide training, equipment, software and broadband access to families in East St. Louis, St. Louis and Wellston.
$60,000 Grant for Interfaith Community Development Training
The Regional Chamber and Growth Association will use this EZ grant to provide workshops designed to build the capacity of faith-based organizations by introducing them to community and economic development principles and strategies. This is a unique response to the federal initiatives which encourage greater involvement of faith based organizations in the delivery of human, workforce and community development services.
$300,000 Grant for Near Southside Senior Housing in St. Louis
Volunteers of America National Services received the grant for construction financing for 40 units of senior housing in the Darst-Webbe HOPE VI redevelopment. The project is part of a larger development at the site that will include 102 total units of senior housing and a Town Center community space.
$1,100,000 Grant for the Parson’s Place Housing Development in East St. Louis
Parson’s Place LP, a partnership between McCormack Baron & Associates and Emerson Park Development Corporation, has received the grant to complete the infrastructure improvements needed for the development of new housing in East St. Louis. The partnership will develop 174 new units of housing. The infrastructure improvements include streetscape development, building demolition, sewers, water services, street paving and fencing.
